OFF TOPIC: The Mad Linguist’s New Year’s Resolution

I don’t normally make New Year’s resolutions. Far from being due to a lack of assiduity, this is because I cannot wait for the first day of the year to get started with a great idea. This year, however, I am making an exception – well, with an early cheat in December maybe…

Being a bit of a language fanatic and an unabashed yoga addict, I have decided to learn the Sanskrit names of all the yoga postures I can do. (Some yoga teachers use the names during their class, but sadly mine doesn’t.) After seven and a half years of practice, that’s a little more than just a handful of words to catch up on.

The challenge for me is to learn a long list of vocabulary from a non-Western European language, with no grammar and structure around.

Have you made any crazy New Year’s resolution for 2014?
